There is little that can go wrong at “ Sudipar Rannaghar” and it is a Fun-do in the City of Joy.(to be merged with Sony Pictures Networks India) Every item is balanced in taste and seasoning, the serving is good and the staff is hospitable. For anybody interested in trying Bengali food in Kolkata, “ Sudipar Rannaghar” may be a suitable venue. We have tried Bengali food at few places such as Oh Calcutta and Ki Hangla. Light, fragrant, a little sweet because of the crispy fried onions – this complete dish, served with raita, is a must try. The Illish Biriyani is an East Bengali dish. Everything was tasty yet moderately spiced so there were no bad burps.
And we were pleasantly surprised with the preparations.
After some study, we ordered Sona Muger Daal (moong daal), Shorshe Posto Chingri (mustard prawn), Posto Dhonepata Pabda (pabda fish in poppy seed – coriander paste), Illish Biriyani (hilsha biriyani) and steamed rice.
The menu is long and covers Bengali food. However, it is a smallish place and prior reservation is advisable. They have quirky plates as table decor with the owner Sudipa’s silhouette printed on them. The well lit ambience and comfortable seating – all these are good vibes.
Tastefully done in Kalighat style pat paintings, the colours are still subtle. Located in South Kolkata beside Triangular Park, it is not difficult to locate this place. Given that it is Lakshmi Puja today among Bengalis, we decided to write about this place that features Lakshmi in many ways – as the deity of wealth as the deity of food and as the divine cook. It is therefore no surprise that she took it to the next level and started a restaurant “ Sudipar Rannaghar” (“Sudipa’s Kitchen”) in Kolkata. The host Sudipta is a popular face in any household in Bengal or among Bengalis across the globe. Take for instance this Bangla cookery show “ Rannaghar” that has been running on Zee Bangla for eons.
